Mary has both personal and professional experience in the area of fertility counselling and feels passionate about supporting women and couples through this difficult time in their lives. She is a member in good standing with the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine ( ASRM). She provides therapy to individuals and couples in various stages of their fertility journey, whether it is at the onset or cessation of treatment. This journey can be an emotional roller coaster ride where feelings of loss, guilt, anger, shame, isolation and sadness are manifested on a daily basis. Infertility is often ranked as one of the most distressing life experiences, leading people to feel depressed, overwhelmed, discouraged and disconnected from partners and friends.
Counselling sessions include the processing of these emotions, while also learning practical coping methods to feel more connected to self and others. Stress management and communication skills are also emphasized in order to feel strengthened and empowered within an uncertain time of one’s life.
Mary provides counselling for the following issues:
- Assisted Reproductive Technology: IVF, IUI
- Decision making re: Fertility treatments
- Terminating fertility treatments
- Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
- Depression/Anxiety/Grief/Anger/Stress as a result of infertility
- Finding meaning in life without children
